Merry Christmas

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays of the year. Getting presents and making Christmas cookies, picking out a tree and putting on decorations, though we have to have a fake tree because my sister is allergic to real Christmas tree, and many other festivities. But most of all, I’m going to love when the family gets together to have some fun and see what we got from underneath the tree.

Every year, I celebrate Christmas Eve with my family. We have a nice supper that my lovely mom makes and when were ready to go, we go to church at 7 o’clock for our Christmas mass. The cool part is when we get back, we can only open one present that has been under the tree already. It was always fun to do so, because you have no idea what it is and you can only open one which can be very hard because you want to keep opening presents. Then when that’s over my grandma sometimes comes over and we play games, either its dominos or some other card game we enjoy to play. Normally we stay up till 10ish and then we go to bed with our tummies full of yummy cut- out cookies and peanut butter bom- boms (which are peanut butter balls covered with chocolate).

By the time I wake up, it’s already like 9 in the morning waiting for our parents. My sister and my brother and I are sitting in the living room snooping around the Christmas tree seeing how many presents we have and trying to figure out what it could be. After awhile we sometimes go into our parent’s room and jump on the bed to wake them up because we want to open our present by then already. Now that we woke them up, we have to wait for them to get ready, jeez how much longer we have to wait. Now it’s about eleven thirty or noon and we finally get to open our presents. We take pictures and take turns opening them so everyone knows what everyone got. After this, I get ready for to go to my grandmas. My grandma’s party is always on Christmas. We eat at 1 or when everyone gets there, we have ham, mashed potatoes, corn and dinner rolls, pies and other deserts, everything you possibly think of for a Christmas dinner. Then at 5 or so, we open some more presents which is where we all cramp into the living room. My grandma and grandpa had nine kids, which now those kids are all married and have kids too which brings some of those kids having kids too—point is, that’s a lot of people. While sitting in the hot living room, everyone received their presents, it’s time for some games. There are about three tables that are playing three different games, with a huge group of people playing. Sometimes people switch throughout playing, but we have blast.

When the day is over and can’t eat no more, it’s about that time we all go home. With an eventful day like my family has, I get excited every year. But I know that this will be my third year going to three different Christmas parties; My grandmas, My boyfriends, and his grandmas and I always feel like my stomach is going to blow because there always in one weekend. Christmas is next week Saturday and I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Expect Great Things!

On November 8, 2010, I called Kohl’s for a job application, and lucky me, I got hold of someone. First they asked me a few questions and later I had an interview that night. I was surprised. I was suppose to apply online but something was wrong and I called about it, one of the associates said let’s wait couple days and see if it does come in. And when I called on November 8, they said they didn’t receive anything so I was given the opportunity to come that night for a group interview.

Shock as I was, I got an interview within one hour. It was very interesting, I never was in a group interview before so this was defiantly my first. Still, I was nervous but as the meeting went on, it was actually pretty cool. At least it wasn’t all eyes on you, it was nice to hear what other people had to say and what reason why other people applied for this job.  First we all had to introduce ourselves: our name, where were from, likes or hobbies, something very interesting and from our previous job—what would we change if we had the chance to. As a group, we were to answer many questions they had asked us, but the trick was we had to answer it differently, and to them that showed them how fast we were thinking on our feet. Along with many other questions, we had to answer why we like Kohl’s and where we prefer to work in, I said “Well, first I shop there all the time, and I like the junior Kohl’s clothes, so I probably prefer to work in the juniors department or as POS,” (Point of Sale, which is working at the cash registers). After everyone answered their questions and was an hour later, we all were finished with our interview. They told us that we would receive a phone call the next day to come in for orientation, and happy I was, I received that phone call.

On November 9, 2010, I went back to Kohl’s for my orientation I had to attend, which this took about three hours. We had to watch a movie of what Kohl’s been about and how it became Kohl’s. Did u know that Kohl’s used to be a grocery store? Later, it became a grocery store along with selling some outdoor stuff such as lawnmowers, and then after so many years later, Kohl’s is what we have now. There are now 1,058 Kohl’s in the United States located in 48 different states. In 1988 was when Wisconsin had their first Kohl’s. How would I ever known this if I hadn’t seen this video, I was surprised that Kohl’s was first a grocery store, I would of never thought of that. I would have to say that the video was very interesting.

After we were done with our orientations, we were to sign up for our training days, and that took 4 days to do so. Most of it was on the computer, but there were also some hands on activities too, and that helped to get around the store to know where everything is, what to do, and how to use many of the things Kohl’s use in the store. One day was especially spent on the registers to know what buttons to use and what this and that mean and so on. I still ask questions, because I’m not sure what button to use, but I do know most of it… I think! Ha!

Lucky as I was to get this job, I was hired as a seasonal associate, but we do have the chance to work part- time year round, which is decided through the boss who they want to keep. I hope I still get to work at Kohl’s, because I believe Kohl’s is one of the best customer services stores around here. As an associate, we put our customers first and I love the reactions I get back after helping them, especially the kind, older women, they defiantly appreciate your help. If I don’t get the year- round- part- time job from Kohl’s, I can say it was a great experience. At Kohl’s, we expect great things!

Thanksgiving Day Weekend

Last week Thursday the 25th was Thanksgiving Day, and I ate so much that I was full for the whole weekend. I had my thanksgiving dinner plus my boyfriend’s family thanksgiving dinner. It sure was a fulfilling day but first let me tell how my weekend all started and did it start out crappy.

Wednesday was the night my boyfriend, Mike, and I wanted to go home but work got in the way.  I had to  work till 6pm and Mike worked till 10pm, which I guess gave me some time to pack things and get things ready but it still was pretty late for a 3 hour drive home. We did sit here thinking if it was a good idea to drive home or not, because first of all, there was bad weather and obviously it would be real late till we got home. So it was either we go home tonight in slush and not-so-bad weather or not go home, because we sure didn’t want to drive in the morning with all that ice that was going to be on the roads. Well, we both decided we really wanted Mikes’ grandma Jackie’s dumplings and my mom’s good ole’ turkey. So we packed our stuff into the trunk of the car and drove home Wednesday night at 11 o’clock at night.

The roads started out pretty good, it was just super cold out and it was just starting to sleet a little bit. The further north we went, the more snow we saw and the more slush we were driving in. Before we left La Crosse, we did stop at Kwik Trip for obviously gas, but for some caffeine and munchies, because we both knew it was going to be a long drive home, plus I also got some hot chocolate, and that was amazing. Surprisingly we were pretty wide awake for the drive, we talked and told jokes the whole ride, we talked about everything, normally we don’t have this long of a conversation in one day but we sure did keep each other busy.

After three and a half hours, we finally arrived to my house which was about 3 in the morning. Back from where I live, there was snow everywhere, we got about 8 inches of snow. Though it was a hassle to drive on my road, Mike had to also drive back to his place, which was like 20 minutes from where I live. I told him to call once he got home just so I know he made it and that he was fine, because the roads here were terrible. While he was driving I was getting ready for bed, by the time I got into my warm comfy bed it was already 4am. So after he gave me a quick call, I’m sure we both slept like babies.

The next morning I got up at 10 and got ready to head over to Mikes. His family was having Thanksgiving Dinner for lunch time and my family was for supper time, simply because my dad and brother wanted to hunt most of the day. I got to Mikes about 11:30am and went to his grandmas at noon, talked it up with some of his relatives and then ate. We had dumplings and gravy, stuffing, turkey, and some other side dishes. Also had dessert of Raspberry Tort and there was pumpkin pie, but I hate pumpkin pie.  After couple hours hanging out there, Mike and I went to my place. There, we had turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet corn and delicious buns. And the dessert my mom made was Snickers Pie, my favorite. Overall I had great food all in one day, but I also know I gained another few pounds from all the food. My Thanksgiving Day was very eventful.

Though I didn’t get to stay home for the weekend, Friday morning, Mike and I drove back to La Crosse because sadly we both had to work for Black Friday along with I had to work Saturday too. After three long days, I finally got some rest on Sunday to re-cooperate for this week. Last weekend I was what you can say “a very busy bee” and was happy to eat some amazing food on turkey day! I hope everyone else’s Thanksgiving Day weekend was fun and less hectic than mine.

Let it Snow!

Winter is on the way...

Winter is good and bad, beautiful and ugly and can make u happy or very mad, as we say pissed off! I hate the winter because of the cold and many other reasons. I like winter because of Christmas and sledding. But one thing about winter is the driving on these crazy roads with people that just don’t have common since on how to drive on slushy or icy roads and that is what gets me very mad.

I can’t preach about driving because first of all, I have never drove on these roads here in La Crosse so this winter will be my first, but I sure did drive on roads back home that roads were never plowed on and can be very icy and that takes skill. Yes, I have been in accidents before but accidents that someone else caused, gotten myself into the ditch, but the accidents here are by the way people drive because they don’t know when to slow down but instead last minute put the breaks down and then rear- end someone. I’m just saying in general that most people don’t know how to drive on slippery roads because their in such a "hurry", but I know there are many people who do know how to take caution on snowy roads. Its just ridiculous how people can drive so senseless and not care about their surrounding and everyone else around them.

At home, on the road I live on, the road was never plowed in the mornings and sometimes I was able to drive through it and sometime I had to be late for school because I had to wait till the plow would go through. I remember one morning, I turned on the TV hoping school would be canceled, which I did every morning,  but that morning there was at least about 15 inches of snow or more and I knew that I couldn’t get out.Though school was not cancelled, it was about the time to head to school, I was lucky to drive out my driveway seeing that the fact it toke me about five chances, struggling to get onto the road. But this snow was the heavy packed snow, good for snowballs kind of snow and when I got to the stop sign at the end of my road, I was stuck because I was kind of was pushing the snow in front of me and when I stopped I couldn’t move forward because of all the snow that was piled up.

While I was stuck this one car was coming down the hill behind me and obviously wasn’t paying attention and crashed into the back of me pushing me across the road into the ditch so now I was definitely stuck. I had a Dodge Eagle for a car at the time and it’s the lightest car that you would ever drive which I got into some accidents because the back end would always fish tail no matter who was driving. But anyways, I eventually got the car out of the driveway and started all over again the next day because the car wasn’t damaged. But I learned my lesson that next time I will not drive if I can’t get out of the driveway.

My point is its either nature or the people are those who cause many accidents and I’m saying please try to be careful while driving on snowy or icy roads especially on these busy roads, if one gets into one accident then there is guaranteed that another will get into one. And if you are running late for work or something important don’t try to drive fast, take your time because everyone understand its winter time and that the roads won’t be the greatest to drive on. Its better to show up late rather then get into an accident and pay a whole months pay check to pay for the accident you got into.

Let it snow!!

My Accident

It was about May 2009, when I should of actually listened to my mother. I decided to go to my boyfriends house. While I was at Mikes, we were just chilling in his room watching TV until his parents were ready to go out to eat, we went to our close by restaurant and got back around 7 or so. I ended up staying later till around 10pm when my mom simply told me that I had to be home by 9pm because I had to work the next day. Anyways after Mike and I got done watching one of his movies, it was about the time I should go home.

Around 10pm, I left Mikes and headed on home. Now the roads I travel on back at home are kind of dangerous I think. The road Mike lives on are very hilly and the woods and tall grass pretty much comes right up to edge of the road. I was obviously hour late from what my mom told me, so I put my lead foot down a bit speeding it up to about 65, which I shouldn’t have done. As I was coming down one of the hills, and right at the bottom at the last minute… Bang! A dumb deer decides to step out of the woods onto the road as I drive right past the spot at the same time.  But catch this. Because I was going fast, I hit the deer on my right side of my car making me swerve a bit ending up in a complete 180, as if I was heading back to my boyfriends house. When I hit the deer, it flew back smashing my passenger window, which the glass flew into side of my face leaving couple of scratches and the deer some how ended up about 20 yards in to the ditch about 30 yards away from where my car ended up.  From hitting the deer so hard, the guts were ripped open splattered all over side of my car, and it pushed back everything such as the moving the radar back a bit to point it was not able to drive. I also was a good enough driver to keep it on the road. I came out with couple of scratches and bruises but I was fine overall.

When it was all over in ten seconds, I called Mike first to come by me asap because I was so scared and shocked. Once Mike came I had him call my parents and when they got here we called the cops. And the first thing the cop said, “ Wow, I’m surprise its not in the ditch… and you're alive.” I was like WHAT, your surprise I am alive- what the hell. They said, from how I hit the deer and how fast I was going, they expected it to be in the ditch, and if I ended up in the ditch I would have been dead because there is a lot of rocks and a old fence that a fence post would of possibly of stabbed through the driver window into my head killing me. And I was like “Wow that’s some bullshit… obviously it didn't happen so can we focus on this right now.” I was so mad. But we took Mikes truck and pulled it to his house since it was right down the road and left it there overnight. The one thing that really pissed me off was when the cop asked if I was under the influence and I of course said, “Hell No,” and went form there. And now I have a curse on me every time I drive on that road because every time I go to Mikes house, there has been a deer in the very spot I had my accident. And the reason why I should of listened to my mom was if I would of left at 9 like I was suppose to it would of never happened…according  to my mother.

Guessing Game

“Hmm, I’m craving for something caramel, chocolate and chewy!” I’m not talking about a Twix or a Caramello, and it’s not some kind of dessert bar that someone makes. But here’s the deal, I’m going to give you some information, and I’m going to see who can name the candy bar first for a winning prize.

It’s a chocolate bar made of malt nougat topped with caramel and covered with milk chocolate and on the other hand, without the caramel, is similar to a 3 Musketeers bar. The chocolate for this chocolate candy bar was supplied by Hershey’s. It was created in 1923 by Frank C. Mars and was manufactured in Minneapolis, Minnesota (Wikipedia Para 2). It was first commercially distributed filled chocolate bar. The name and taste was taken from a malted milkshake who supposedly Forrest Mars, son of Frank, came up with the idea and told his father. Though Frank was the one who came up the name of the chocolate bar that we all American enjoy eating this sweet snack.

On March 10, 1925, this trademark was registered in the U.S. claiming a first- use of 1922 and in 1924 this yummy bar was introduced nationally and was sold 800,000 that year and 8.2 million today (Wikipedia Para 3).

It was at first called the Forever Yours bar.  It remained until 1979 when it was discontinued but due to popular demand, the Forever Yours bar returned in 1989 and was renamed to what we know today, the chocolate and vanilla was forever parted.

There are two version of this enjoyable snack, the American or the European and Australian version. The European and Australian version is pretty much the same but without caramel and the nougat is much lighter. It was also distributed by the Mars Confectionary company.

Have you figured out what candy bar I’m talking about, if not here is a hint; “The sweet you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite” or “Comfort in every bar.” These slogans were first said when this chocolate bar were bitten into.

(Information^- Wikipedia.com)

This candy bar is what we call sweet, tasty and has a lot of calories. It can make every kids day bright up or even the adults that want to have snack during their break. I believe that this is one of my favorite chocolate candy bars next to the snickers, and now I’m sure you are wondering what it is. Well, I’m not going to tell you! If you can be the FIRST to tell me what kind of chocolate candy bar it is, and I’ll bring that candy bar in for you.

Lets see who wins! :)

Halloween Time!

Sunday October 31, 2010! Halloween is just around the corner so its about that time you put your costume on and as for the kids, its trick- or- treating time. As for college students, its put your costume on and trick- or- treat to every house that has goodies, goodies that children are not allowed to have. Halloween is a holiday everyone can celebrates to dress up of who they like to be either its funny, scary, a celebrity, a sexy waitress or a super scary Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street. Halloween is celebrated with carving pumpkins, telling ghost stories, going to haunted houses, going to costume parties, and watching scary movies. But do you ever wonder how Halloween become a holiday on our calendars.

Halloween dates back to "the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain" roughly 2,000 years ago, people known as the Celts were divided throughout modern-day countries United Kingdom, Northern France and Ireland. These people celebrated on November 1, meaning October 31, which was their New Year's Eve. The Celtics believed that the boundary between the worlds of living and the dead became blurred that night. Bonfires and animal sacrifices were common, as for costumes, they consisted of animal heads and skins. When the Romans conquered the Celts, the Samhain was combined with other holidays and when Christianity became powerful, Pope Boniface IV gave another name to what we know as Halloween. He designated November 1 as All Saints Day- day when followers could honor the dead, particularly the saints and martyrs. All Saints Day was also known as "All- Hallows" and Hallow is and Old English word for saint. The night before (Oct. 31) was known as "All- Hallows Eve", then shortened to Hallowe'en and finally to Halloween.

Did you know that trick- or- treating and the name jack-o'-lanterns comes from Ireland. If not, this is why. Hundreds of years ago, Irish farmers went from houses to houses begging for food in the name of their ancient gods, to be used at the village Hallowe'en celebration. If the people did grant them food, they were promise good luck in the future and made threats to those who refused to give, meaning they would be cursed. One way they used to say, "You treat me, or else I will trick you!"
And for the name for those harmless lightened pumpkin faces, jack-o'-lanterns actually is an old Irish symbol of a damned soul. Story behind was a man named Jack was unable to reach heaven due to miserliness and was unable to enter hell because he played jokes on the devil. So in results of what he did, he was condemned to wander on earth with his lantern until end of the world. And the light that was placed inside the pumpkin was to scare away evil spirits from the peoples home and wore costumes to disguise themselves.

The Irish, who arrived in America as settlers were responsible for spreading the concept of Halloween, where it eventually grew in popularity. With the advent of modern science and advancement in technology, Halloween in US, as in other parts of the world, became less and less religious and this annual event has now turned into more of a social event.

Halloween is fun for everyone and everyone enjoys have some time for themselves, but I think parents should take a minute or two to tell their children why we have Halloween because really without the history of it, we wouldn't have this exciting and crazy day to celebrate.. But really its just another way to gain another pound or two from all the candy... or for those dang college goodies! wink wink!

New kid on the Block- Final Draft

Imagine what it feels like to be the new kid. Imagine how it feels to be left out or to be the outcast. Or how about, imagine what it’s like to have no friends and no one to talk to. My emotions went on a wild streak when I knew I had to do this again. I was nervous, scared and upset, I didn’t understand why I had to go to a new school. I went through this in the beginning of my 3rd grade year from when I moved from Wittenberg School, WI, to Bowler School, WI, about 10 miles away. I had to step into new territory of new people, new kids, and new hallways. I knew that I had to start all over again from knowing what classroom to go to, to making new friends, but I had no idea how difficult it would be to be the new kid on the block.
I had attended school in the same school district, with the same people since pre- school, so I felt comfortable. Wittenberg is a small town where everyone knows everyone. Of course when I got into first and second grade I had all my friends figured out knowing that these friends were going to be my long lasting friends until I graduate. But one day towards the end of second grade, that all changed. When I came home from school after my mother picked me up, my mom told me to take a seat in the living room. I knew right then and there something was wrong, she told me, “Brittany, we are moving and you will be going to a new school, Bowler Elementary.” Like any other little girl would, I ran to my room and cried. I sat in my room for that rest of the night thinking about how was I going to tell my friends that I’m not coming back the following year.
The next day, the sun came along and I got ready for my last day of school, it occurred to me it would also be my last day of school at Wittenberg Elementary. Now every kid was excited because the summer was almost here, and of course it was the last day of the school. When I got to school, everyone was happy, talking about how they couldn’t wait until next year hoping certain friends will be in the same classroom and get longer recesses, everyone except me. How upsetting is that? Recess did eventually come along for us, and at that time I told my friends I was leaving, that I wasn’t going to come back the following year. They all understood and were upset but my closest friend at the time, Alicia, told me, “We’ll still be friends even if you go to a different school,” and happily, we still are. So for the rest of the day I tried to make the best of it and enjoy every last minute.
As the summer days went by, so did the packing and the moving. This new house was white and it was out in the country where it’s quiet and there is barely any traffic, tons of trees and lots of fields. I have a younger sister and a younger brother but my sister was going into kindergarten, and well, my brother was just a little one yet. But we kids got very used to the new surroundings because we got to run everywhere and anywhere and of course hide-n- go- seek in the tall grass. The summer was a huge excitement that year, seeing that everything was finally settled in but as September 2nd, 2000 approached I became more anxious about the new school.
At 7:30 a.m. the bus came, so my sister and I had to be ready by the latest of 7:25 a.m. This was the first time I ever got to ride a bus, because back in Wittenberg, my mother would take me to school. So of course at 7:25 a.m. in the morning, my sister and I were waiting at the end of the driveway for the bus to come along and next thing I knew, the bus stopped in front of me. Nervously, I got on, walk towards the middle of the bus, sat down and watched out of the window the whole way to the new school I was about to see. School normally started at 8:15 a.m., so it took like and half an hour or so before I got there but when we finally arrived at Bowler School, my heart was beating like the wings of a hummingbird. I was scared, what if I didn’t make any friends or what if everyone hates me or doesn’t  like or something, all these thoughts were running through my head. I was scared to walk off the bus, but I knew I had too. I walked off with my head held low, walked into the building and there I was, in middle of nowhere. Where was I suppose to go, what was I supposed to do, I had no idea what to do, my thought to myself was, “ Why did my mom do this to me.” But all of a sudden, a teacher walks up to me and says “ You must be new, what’s your name?” Well of course I answered her saying yes I was new and that my name was Brittany. At Bowler, all the kids go into the gym until the teachers comes in and introduces the childrens names in his/her class, and then they’re all dismissed. I remember my first teacher, Mr. Turner and I remembered him because he was freakishly tall at the time. When he came and got all of us, he took us back to his classroom, and with butterflies in my stomach, we all sat down and right away I could notice everyone had their friends already from the previous year. I was so scared that I wasn’t going to make any friends after what I saw. Telling each other about their summer except for me, there I was in the back row, in the back seat, by myself.
Until this one girl sat down next to me in the back row, Ashley Backes. I knew her when I used to live in Wittenberg. Her grandparents were our neighbors and when Ashley would visit, we would always hang out and play outside and do some kind of adventure that came upon our heads. But we both looked at each other and we both said, “I know you!” Instantly we became the “bestest” of friends throughout Bowler Elementary from 3rd grade to 8th grade when she decided to move to Wittenberg herself. That moment, I was the happiest kid ever because I knew I didn’t have to go through 3rd grade as the lonely kid. I knew then I didn’t have to worry no more and didn’t have to make a big deal about it because it all turned out to be fine at the end. Later after Ashley had moved, I had some other great friends and the one I became best friends with was Danielle Rickert. We stayed the closest of friends and were nominated most inseparable for the yearbook and literally ‘hands in hands’ graduated together. From then and there I knew this wasn’t going to be bad after all, I did start out with a rough start being the new kid, but if you experienced the new kid feeling, you will know exactly what I’m talking about. Seeing that I was friends with her in 3rd grade, I soon then became friends with lots of others too. Now I’m glad to be a Bowler graduate with 26 other friends of Bowler High School, including the friends I kept over the years at Wittenberg High.

Diabetes around the World

Diabetes as most know it as, the original name is Diabetes mellitus. It’s a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced (Diabetes- Wikipedia). Insulin is the principle hormone that regulates uptake of glucose (sugar) from the blood into most cells, therefore, the insulin plays a central role in all forms of diabetes mellitus (Diabetes- Wikipedia). And the reason why I’m going to talk about diabetes is because the other day I saw my grandma give herself her own shot, needle and everything into her lower stomach area. And it was to give herself some insulin because, her body does not produce enough insulin. So when her blood sugar is slow, she has to give herself a injection of insulin.

Now tell me, when  you get a shot, it fricken hurts doesn’t it. So I asked my grandma the other day, “ Doesn’t that hurt when you do that?” And guess what she said. “ No, I’m used to it now, at first it did, but now I’m over it.” Wow isn’t she a trooper! Because I know that when I get shots, it brings a tear to my eye, because I cant stand the feeling of a needle getting underneath my skin.

I didn’t ask her much about it, but I did some research. (The following information is from the website, Diabetes on Wikipedia.) There is three common kinds of diabetes mellitus; Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. Type 1 results from the body’s failure to produce insulin, and presently requires the person to inject insulin. Which I think my grandma possibly has, seeing that she has to give herself injection of insulin. But I didn’t bother to ask because one, she hates when people ask and two, she finds it annoying that when she’s asked, there’s so many questions about it that she just doesn’t care. Anyway, Type 2 results from insulin resistant, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly.  Type 2 can lead to a stage that medications are used to improve insulin sensitivity or reduce glucose production . And Gestational Diabetes is when pregnant women, who have never had diabetes before, have a blood glucose (sugar) level during pregnancy. Gestational Diabetes can be treatable but if not treated, it can damage the health of the fetus or even the mother. I found out that in 2008, U.S. found that the number of American women entering pregnancy with preexisting diabetes is increasing which lead to the mother having some kind of diabetes later in the future. Seeing that insulin became available in 1921, all forms of diabetes are treatable.

As of  2000 at least 171 million people worldwide have diabetes, and Type 2 diabetes is by far most common affecting 90 to 95% of the U.S. diabetes population. Which can lead to another possibility that my grandma could have, seeing its very common. But According to the American Diabetes Association, approximately 18.3% (8.6 million) of Americans age 60 and older have diabetes. Evan though there is no cure for diabetes but there’s plenty of treatments such as medication, dieting, and exercising to control blood sugar and prevent symptoms (All this info. from website on American Diabetes Association- home page).

Now that I know a lot about diabetes maybe I’ll have the guts to ask my grandma about it. But my point is, diabetes can happen to anyone and everyone, like my sister she possibly might have diabetes. Even though she’s all around good kid, plays all sports and does a lot of extra circulars, one day at a doctors appointment and 10 minutes later your told  you might have diabetes. Now isn’t that just something, so it may be genetic or just because of something with your body isn’t doing something right, you possibly might have diabetes later in the future, just maybe.

What do you think?

Ok, the topic I am about to talk about is a controversial subject and is based on my opinion, your views could be completely opposite and you may agree with me. You have your opinion and I have mine but here it goes.

First thought is what do you think about abortion? For those that don’t fully understand what an abortion is, abortion is the intentional termination of a pregnancy after conception. It allows women to put an end to their pregnancies, but involves killing the undeveloped embryo or fetus. To sum it up, its when a women kills her child. Which leads to what I strongly think about this, I believe that no young teen or any women should have an abortion. You were the one who made the decision to have sex, you know the consequences you possibly could get from doing this action that you thought would be alright. Obviously there are ways not to get pregnant such as the pill and of course the use of a condom but the one thing that most girls and women don’t know is a little pin hole in a condom or couple days u forgot to take the pill can lead to the biggest decision that you have to make.

Now this will get you thinking, in the United States the number of abortions per year is about 1.37 million and the number per day in the United States is about 3,700 a day. Now what does that tell you? Another fact I found on the internet, 52% of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. are younger then 25, teenagers obtain 20% and girls under 15 account for 1.2%. Wow, I cant believe how much these percentages have been rising, I mean how can a person possibly kill a child. But there’s one situation that I can understand why to get an abortion, if you had been raped, that gives you every right to get an abortion. Because I’m sure I wouldn’t want to be reminded every time I look at the baby of what that person could possibly look like, would you? But if you’re a young teen that had sex at the wrong time and got pregnant well, damn take care of the child, it has every right to live just like you are right now.

Here are some thoughts to why I think teens or young women get abortions, one- having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities, two- they cannot afford a child, and third of all- they don’t want to be a single parent. I mean I don’t want to be rude or anything but these girls and boys need to realize that they need to take responsibility for what they did, there are a lot of girls that regret their decision for what they’ve done and how they could possibly kill such a blessing in the world, but that’s the burden they have to live with now. I mean think of it like this, say you or your girlfriend gets pregnant, and you or she decide to kill it just because you think that you cant handle it, what would you do in this situation? Well here’s what I got to say to that, Abortion is bad and you should take responsibility and take care of it. What if that would have been you, your mother killed you because she couldn’t take on the situation that she got herself into.. There’s other options too such as adoption, because at least your giving the child a chance to have a life. Because if your not ready to be a parent, adoption allows you to do something courageous and compassionate and gives you a second chance to finish growing up yourself.

If I were to be pregnant right now, I would defiantly keep my child, no second guesses. I would take care of it because he/she is mine and I will love him/her till the day I die, even if I do or don’t have my significant other to be here for me and the child. I really do mean every word I say, it just breaks my heart for those that do choose abortion. An abortion is serious and permanent, there’s no turning back, so don’t be pushed or influenced by others, it’s what YOU WANT.

~ Remember this is what I believe in and this is my opinion on what I think about this. Thank you!

In General I think...

Here is the following link and fell free to view the video:

Alright, I watched this video and at first I thought it was going to be a real boring video seeing that some classes give out boring lectures. But wait, this video was real cool. I totally agree with this Tulley guy, kids do learn ten times better with hands on activities. Also to let the kids be able to learn from mistakes are good too. It keeps their mind of what to do better for the next time they work on something. Which eventually these kids become stronger when a bigger problem in the future comes along, they can overcome it.

In my childhood, I did a lot of hand on activities to. Like when I was in early elementary, we got to play with all kinds of objects and other things. When kids get their hands on everything they get to learn what colors, shapes and even their ABCs. When I got into middle school there was tech. ed. classes like wood shop, computer tech, and so on. I took wood shop class and I ended up making a swinging chair, bench and a shelf with a mirror in it. Yea, it took a lot of time and effort but I eventually got it done. I did make mistakes throughout the process, but everyone makes mistakes. Like Tulley says throughout life, you will make mistakes and they are ok to make mistakes. And in the video, he tells the kids that it is ok to make mistakes and we get better from what we do wrong to make it right.

While growing up, I got a lot of experience simply because I was always outside, and I love outside work. So of course I got my hands on to whatever I could. From building a swing set to making a playground, which I had to do for community service for my church. But now, we see kids playing on it all the time, so all the hands- on experiences turned out be a very successful at the end. Dang, how would you ever figure that a little girl turned out to be a young woman who can build a playground with other young adult. So I understand what Tulley’s point to children of trying to get them to work on big projects for when they get older, who knows they could build a playground too.

The point is you are able to accomplish anything you want longs you put your mind to it, even if you make mistakes, screw- up and think you can’t do it. That means take a break, then come back and see how you can do it better. Tulley makes it clear himself too, he sees that working on it till it’s done makes a better attitude and makes you stronger for what you have become and what you have accomplished.

My Labor Day Weekend

Labor day weekend was not too exciting. Some of the things I did was help some friends move into their apartment and help them get organized. Went shopping to find a dress for a wedding that I will be attending this coming weekend. My cousin is getting married on Sept, 11th of 2010 and that means I have to travel three hours back home to attend the exciting wedding. My dress is short and the color is blue. And I also went for a jog around the city of La Crosse and did some homework that was due the following day. Like I said, my weekend is what you would say, boring.

About Me!

Hello, my name is Brittany Rondeau and I'm going into a program to be a Medical Assistant.  I'm from Bowler, WI and I graduated from Bowler High School with a graduating class of 26 other friends. For those who don't know where Bowler is, it's about three hours away from here. I also have a younger sister and a younger brother. I'm very outgoing and fun to hang out with.  I love horses, so I try to go horsebacking riding as much as I can when I'm home. I hope in the future I'll be able to afford an Newfoundland dog. I love to play softball, so i'm also hoping to join a team this year. I enjoy swimming, rollerblading, camping and hanging with my friends. The one thing that is the most intresting about me would be that I have a freckle on my left eye. But theres plenty more to know, so if you want to know more, lets start talking.
